Dr. Mark Caggiano tells what a typical sedation dentistry appointment is all about. He insists on taking informed consent of his patients before performing any dental work on their mouths. The patients are then given some oral sedatives and when they’re comfortable asleep, Dr. Caggiano performs the agreed upon treatment. He advises his patients to be dropped and picked from the office on the day of their sedation dentistry appointment. The patients are really pleased with the results of their sedation dentistry appointment in Seattle.
Dr. Mark Caggiano, D.D.S
Many patients ask me what is Sedation Dentistry. It’s real simple. When you come to our office, we check things out, we do a really focused exam but we’re not poking around, we’re not hurting you. I always ask your permission if you allow me to take a look at things. Once both of us determine what you need and what you want done, we bring you back, we hook up the monitors to you, Again there are no IVs, there’s no, you don’t have to worry about anything, it’s all oral medications. We take your vital signs. If everything is comfortable and everything is good then we go back giving you a little bit more medication orally, wait about half hour or hour or so, until you’re comfortably asleep. And then we go about our agreed upon procedures. At the end of the appointment, we give you a milk shake; we have your ride waiting for you. We give your ride a whole lot of post operative instructions and they bring you to your car. And next day I give you a call to make sure everything is good. I review the instructions with you and that’s it. The really cool thing about the medication that we use is it has an amnesic effect. So you don’t remember anything, very very little if anything about the appointment. Patients, it’s amazing, when I call the patient the next day, it’s really one of the joys of my day is because patients will tell me “Gosh! I can’t believe I did so much and I don’t remember anything and I don’t feel anything.
