Assuming that you are, we will work with you to formulate a treatment plan that suits your budget and your health needs.

The Dental Implant Procedure

After your initial consultation, a plan will be formulated between you and your dentist about where implants will be posted in your mouth. The actual implant is comprised of a titanium post which has an artificial tooth covering it. The implant is installed right into the gumline, so as to maintain the general structure of your teeth.

It will also help to support the natural chewing and biting processes for your teeth. When dental implant surgery is conducted, it will replace the root area of any missing teeth. A screw-like titanium post will be installed, and after it fuses with your jawbone, a crown will be attached over it. The thing that makes dental implants so effective is a process called osseointegration.

Because titanium is highly biocompatible, it actually fuses with your jawbone, and this is the integration process. This provides an excellent anchor for your new artificial tooth, and ensures that it will remain in place without moving. After dental implant surgery, all you have to do is keep your jawbone healthy, and your new tooth will remain completely functional. If you do your part in maintaining good oral hygiene, your dental implant can literally last a lifetime.

WHY DENTAL IMPLANTS ARE SUPERIOR

There are quite a few advantages to having dental implants installed, as opposed to some other dental procedure. For one thing, you will probably experience an improved level of speech. Many people who have dentures also have speech difficulties, because dentures can slip around in your mouth. Implants are generally much more comfortable than dentures or other products. Since they actually fuse with your jawbone and become part of you, there’s no discomfort at all.

When you have implants installed, it will generally be much easier to chew and bite foods than it would be with dentures. Implants work very much like your natural teeth, so that you can eat anything with confidence. Your oral health will be improved by dental implants, because they don’t require grinding down neighboring teeth. When you have bridgework installed, it will be necessary to grind down teeth surrounding the gap.

This means your original teeth remain intact, and that bodes well for your long-term oral health. Individual dental implants also make it easier to floss, which again promotes better oral health. Because dental implants are so well-anchored and become part of you, they will literally last for years. In many cases, dental implants will last a lifetime, provided you take care of them.

With dental implants, you don’t have to worry about taking them in and taking them out. Since they are part of your natural oral structure, they stay in permanently. This is much more convenient, and requires only basic good hygiene to keep them intact. Finally, dental implants can help restore your terrific natural smile, and give you more self-confidence. When your self-esteem is raised like this, it improves your overall sense of well-being.

THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE

Arkadi Razoumovich, DDS places the implants, and design and fits the replacement teeth all in one office.
1 At the first appointment, we use an X-ray to determine if the jaw bone is adequate to hold the titanium posts. Arkadi Razoumovich, DDS will determine if standard implants or mini implants are the best option for you.
2 Models of the mouth are often made using a soft, pliable plastic compound. These models show where the gaps are located and provide measurements for a replacement tooth or a bridge.
3 Treatment with dental implants requires meticulous planning for best results.
4 A surgical procedure is required (using local anesthetic and sedative) in which precision channels are created in the jawbone, often using a surgical guide. The implants are then fitted into the sites so that they are in contact with the bone. They generally require two to six months to fuse to the bone before they can have tooth restorations attached to them to complete the process.
5 Immediately – at the same time an implant is placed (or after a period of healing), an abutment is attached to the implant if a traditional implant is being placed. This is a device that “abuts” or joins the implant to a tooth form called a crown, which replaces the tooth part you see in the mouth.
6 The custom crown is cemented or screwed onto the abutment to permanently keep it in place and should be indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

FREQUENTLY ASKED DENTAL IMPLANT QUESTIONS

Q: Are dental implants expensive?

A: Dental implants are sometimes relatively inexpensive, because in some cases, only four posts are necessary to install a whole new upper or lower arch of teeth. They do cost more than dentures, but they are much better anchored in your mouth, and provide a solution which is often permanent.

Q: How do dental implants work?

A: Dental implants work by fusing tiny posts to your jawbone, which serve as anchors for the implant which is installed over them.

Q: Why are the advantages of implants?

A: Dental implants do not require that neighboring teeth be ground down, and do not require attachment to neighboring teeth like bridges do. There is another advantage in their longevity, provided that you keep the jawbone healthy and maintain good oral hygiene.

Q: Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

A: Anyone who is in good general health, good oral health, and who has a healthy jawbone is probably a good candidate for dental implants.

Q: How many teeth can be replaced with dental implants?

A: As few as one tooth can be replaced with an implant, or an entire upper or lower set of teeth can be replaced. Depending on the needs of a given patient, the appropriate treatment plan will be developed and carried out.
