Among the most popular treatments at the practice is porcelain veneers, a highly effective cosmetic dentistry and smile makeover option. Some dentists call porcelain veneers “instant orthodontics.” Let’s show you why that is.

About Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of dental ceramic that are affixed to the fronts of a patient’s teeth. When in place, the porcelain veneers blend in seamlessly with a patient’s natural tooth structure, making your smile look flawless. In natural or artificial light and even when someone is up close, he or she will not be able to tell that you have porcelain veneers.

Dental Problems That
Porcelain Veneers Can Treat

Porcelain veneers are very versatile, allowing cosmetic dentists to treat the following aesthetic problems:

Chipped teeth
Cracked teeth
Tooth discoloration and deep stains
Tooth gaps
Uneven teeth
Minor tooth misalignments

Why Porcelain Veneers Are Considered
“Instant Orthodontics”

Consider the list of dental problems above and what they involve. With porcelain veneers, a full smile makeover can be achieved, even when the dental problems affecting your smile involve spacing issues and overall evenness/alignment.

Since these space and straightness matters can be effectively treated thanks to porcelain veneers, many dental care professionals have nicknamed the treatment instant orthodontics. It’s possible to look like you’ve undergone a full orthodontic treatment and makeover even though that is not the case.

How Long Does Porcelain
Veneers Treatment Take?

While orthodontic care can take several months, porcelain veneers treatment requires just two visits and two weeks tops. That’s a brand new smile in a relative instant.

The Porcelain Veneers Procedure

After a patient’s teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, a small amount of tooth structure is carefully removed. Less than 1 millimeter of enamel is removed in order to accommodate the porcelain veneer and make sure that the results look as natural as possible.

Once the teeth are prepped, a dental impression is taken. It is from this impression that the final veneers will be crafted and fabricated by a dental lab. Patients will wear temporary veneers until their final veneers are finished being made.

When the final veneers are completed, the dental lab sends them to the practice. Your cosmetic dentist will make one final check on your teeth and the veneers to ensure a perfect fit before adhering the veneers in place.

Should I Undergo Orthodontic Treatment
Or Just Get Porcelain Veneers?

This depends on the nature of your dental problem(s) and the judgment of your cosmetic dentist. In general, porcelain veneers are most ideal when cases of tooth misalignment are predominantly cosmetic in nature and do not affect your overall dental health. These matters can be discussed in more detail during your consultation at the practice.
